Although most people experience anxiety, if you have never suffered from an anxiety or panic attack, you cannot understand the extreme fear that an individual feels. It has been said that a panic attack is the most terrifying experience of ones life and 5% of the world population will at some point suffer from an attack.

When an individual has a panic attack they feel like they are loosing complete control. It is not something that is understood by them or rational by nature, they just know they are feeling something extremely disturbing.

Anxiety is a way for us to protect ourselves; it controls how we react to danger, fight or flight. Anxiety affects the sympathetic and parasympathetic nervous system by sending a signal to the brain, which increase hormones, oxygen, and energy. When we have anxiety, these two systems have a call to action and put the whole body on alert. The sympathetic nervous system regulates the body’s response prior to the attack and the parasympathetic nervous system responds by returning us to a normal state of being. Panic Attacks occur because of the feeling of all these things going on in the body at one time. Although the actual attack cannot cause you any harm, it can be a terrifying experience.

Many Panic Attack cures rely on the parasympathetic system taking control of the situation before the sympathetic system gets out of control. Relaxation techniques are one way to accomplish this but until trained on proper technique, it is virtually impossible to accomplish during a full blown attack.
